School Officials Apologize for Requiring Attendance During LGBT Speakers (OR)

Centennial High School officials apologized Friday for not allowing students to leave classes featuring gay and lesbian panelists as part of the school's annual diversity week.

School Board OKs Students' Gay-Straight Alliance (CA)

Clovis High School students can form a Gay-Straight Alliance club despite objections from disapproving parents who threatened to pull their children out of the district, school board members decided Wednesday.

Here's what some of you have had to say when asked, "What are you doing for the Day of Silence???"

• "This is our 2nd year participating and not only did club members participate, but teachers and other students. We're going to hold teacher workshops and have guest speakers!"
• "We're conducting a school survey"
• "We observed 30 seconds of silence in our school assembly after explaining briefly what the Day of Silence was. Judging by some of the feedback we received it was by far the most controversial 30 sec. of the school's history. It was absolutely incredible which is why I think it needs to happen again, and again!"
• "We're using the Day of Silence to build a GSA Coalition of local GSAs"
• "Possibly we'll organize a march or Breaking the Silence Rally."
