GLBT YEARS BOOK by Webmaster

The Safe Schools Coalition of Northern Nevada would like to announce the first national Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Years Book.

The "Years Book" is an on-line gallery of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender adults' middle and high school photos, presented anonymously on the Safe Schools website at http://www.pflagreno.org/safeschools.

Our purpose in creating the Years Book is to provide a small counter to present-day gay & lesbian teens feelings of isolation. We'd like them to see the many 20th century generations of teenagers who grew up to be lesbian & gay adults, despite the traumas of adolescence. Along the way we'd also like to demonstrate that 1. 'Gay youth' aren't a new phenomenon; 2. Gay youth are faces behind those scary statistics such as "28% of gay teens will drop out of school" or "35% of gay teens will attempt suicide"; and 3. Gay teens look just like other teens - and have for generation upon generation of school year book photos.

We're inviting you to include your picture in the "Years Book." If you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender and are over 18 yrs old, we'd like your school photo.

Any formal school portrait taken between 7th & 12th grade, of any size, in either black & white or color, is fine. You can either scan & e-mail your photo to us at yearsbook@pflagreno.org, or mail it to us, with an SASE, at PFLAG RENO Years Book, PO Box 20844, Reno, NY 89515. We'll put in on our website (without your name) in 1.5" x 2" format, in order of graduation year.
