Dear Safe Schools members and friends ...

If you are -- or if you know -- a heterosexual student or relatively recent graduate who has been harassed or attacked at school because someone perceived them to be gay or lesbian ... read on:

We have been approached for help by a national television news magazine, to identify young people who might be willing to be interviewed about what they have experienced or witnessed.

We will want to talk with young people first, before we refer them to the show's producers, regarding the ramifications of this kind of mass media exposure and regarding their level of support here at home. But we want to support this important coverage of a really critical problem that clearly affects many, many straight youth, just as it affects many sexual minority youth.

So, if you or someone you know is interested, reply to Beth Reis at elizabeth.reis@metrokc.gov or 206-296-4970.
