Hello everyone!
My name is Irene Villasenor and I'm the Youth Views Coordinator at P.O.V., PBS's award-winning independent documentary film series. I'm writing to alert you to the Youth Views program.
Youth Views is a youth outreach program designed to encourage young people to use documentaries as a tool for civic engagement in their own communities. Participants in the Youth Views Advisory Board will assist in the development of a youth outreach campaign (from choosing the P.O.V. documentary to providing input on the creation of companion materials to developing the skills to organize their own screening events).
We're currently organizing a Youth Views Advisory Board and encourage you to nominate two youth from your organization to participate. In addition we invite you to distribute the attached Youth Views fact sheet and application form among your membership, as we do accept individual applications from youth media makers, youth activists, youth organizers, and youth leaders. As a youth media maker myself, I think it's imperative to not only hear from young people, but also to involve them in the process of understanding how documentaries can become a powerful tool to engage communities in critical discussion and action.
If you or any other young people you know believe that independent film can be a powerful
storytelling medium that can get people thinking and talking, we want to hear from you. If you're interested in learning more about how film can become a catalyst to gather your communities, get in contact with us.
