1. Update Your GSA Contact Info

GSA Network is trying to keep our GSA database current -- Please help us by sending your updated GSA information!

* We do not give out home numbers, and when referring folks to a particular GSA we give the advisor contact info. Student contact information is for our own records.

2. Apply for the GSA Network Youth Council!

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Youth Council Description:The GSA Network Youth Council is a diverse group of youth leaders who care about fighting homophobia in schools. There are 3 Youth Councils:Northern California, Central California, and Southern California. Each Youth Council is responsible for making decisions about and guiding the programs of the GSA Network in their region. Youth Council members will represent the needs of GSAs and youth activists from their geographic region as well as set goals and establish priorities for the entire GSA Network.

Schedule:The Youth Council meets once a month, generally on a Saturday. Meetings will take place in each office of the GSA Network, in Northern, Central, and Southern California. Typically, Youth Council members are also involved in planning and/or implementing other trainings and conferences, most of which happen on weekend days as well.

Job Responsibilities
Each Youth Council member is expected to:

  1. Make a one-year commitment to serve on the Youth Council.
  2. Represent your region as fully as possible.
  3. Prepare for and attend monthly meetings of the Youth Council.
  4. Participate in setting goals and making decisions about the programs of the GSA Network.
  5. Identify needs of GSAs and LGBTQ youth and straight allies in schools and guide the direction of the GSA Network activities accordingly.
  6. Help plan and/or conduct workshops at GSA Network trainings and conferences.
  7. Help coordinate youth involvement in events such as National Day of Silence.
  8. Be a resource to new and/or struggling GSAs in your region.
Skills/Requirements
  1. Willing to commit to serve on the Youth Council for one year.
  2. Interested in developing and suggesting ideas to strengthen the GSA Network.
  3. Committed to creating change for LGBTQ youth and fighting homophobia in schools.
  4. Be able to work well in a group.

5. Movie Night at CHD in Pleasant Hill -- tonight

Hello All LGBTQ Youth, Young Adults, and Straight allies,

MOVIE NIGHT

at the Center for Human Development (CHD) in Pleasant Hill

Folks will be watching "Better than Chocolate" from 7-9pm in the training room of CHD in Pleasant Hill. This event is youth run, hosted by Ravi Rangi.

Movie nights are twice monthly, the first and third Friday of every month.

7. Services for Queer Youth on the Peninsula

*** Support group for Queer youth in Sunnyvale & Cupertino

A free, confidential support group for LGBTQQ youth ages 13-18 is being offered by Outlet at the Columbia Neighborhood Center, located at 785 Morse Ave. in Sunnyvale. 11. Job Announcement:Youth Leader, Girls in the Hall

Job Description: Youth Leader

Girls in the Hall is a public art collaboration created to educate the community about young women's involvement with the juvenile justice system. Our first project was an art exhibit which took place at the Columbia Park Boys & Girls club from May 10-June 10, 2001 Girls in the Hall is a project of the Solutions program. Solutions is in the process of planning future exhibits in the San Francisco community as well as traveling the exhibit to cities all over the United States.

Solutions is a collaboration which includes members from Special Programs for Youth, Bay Area Teen Voices, Brava for Women in the Arts and other individual artists and collaborators. Solutions provides comprehensive health education through the use of expressive arts. We run workshops in juvenile hall dealing with emotional and physical health including:abuse, self-esteem, freedom, sexuality, substance use and incarceration.

Girls in the Hall is currently seeking part-time Youth Leaders to help develop the art exhibit, conduct outreach at schools and community organizations, and to be advocates for girls involved in the juvenile justice system in San Francisco.
