I just learned yesterday that Congressman Gephardt is holding a 2-day TEEN conference called "Voices Against Violence" Tues Oct 19 & Wed OPct 20 from 7am to 6pm on Capitol Hill. Teens from 130 congressional districts will be registering their opinions about teen violence. They will hear from many speakers and panels and assist in drafting of a House resolution, plus going back to their own communities to make changes.

My concern is the list of participants: Center for Civic Education, Georgetown Law Center, NEA, Yale Child study center, national crime prevention council, motion picture assoc., center for disease prevention, SHINE, DOE, national 4-H council, coaltiton to stop gun violence, national youth network, with comment "also additional groups". I see no inclusion of GLBT groups and think its imperative we participate. Please pass this info on...

PLEASE call Maura Policelli 202-226-0814 to see if your group is included or that you want to be heard. They are specifically looking to hear from as many teens/young (college age) adults as possible. The Hate/Bias Impact panel committee that I am on representing PFLAG is hoping to attend and really needs some young adults (18-25) who can tell their story. If you know of anyone who can paricipate from Howard County, please also let me know.
Thanks, Colette Roberts, PFLAG Columbia/Howard County
