Job Description

BRIDGES PROJECT ASSISTANT

JOB SUMMARY: The Bridges Project Assistant (BPA) is responsible for assisting the Bridges Project Director in the daily operations of the Bridges Project Clearinghouse including: fulfilling requests for information, materials, and referrals; creating and maintaining systems for managing Clearinghouse resources; maintaining Clearinghouse databases; and assisting with resource development.

SUPERVISOR: Bridges Project Director

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $24,000 to $26,000 plus benefits.

A. BRIDGES PROJECT RESPONSIBILITIES
The BPA is responsible for assisting with the daily maintenance and operations of the Bridges Project Clearinghouse, and performing activities as outlined in a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH). BPA duties include:

  1. Responding to, and tracking, requests for information, assistance, resources, and referrals from individuals and organizations and facilitating information-sharing between agencies, advocates, and youth.
  2. Maintaining and managing a national database of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth allies and service providers.
  3. Creating and maintaining systems for managing and organizing Clearinghouse resources.
  4. Tracking up-to-date research, information and program models on issues affecting LGBT youth.
  5. Evaluating and identifying opportunities for conducting outreach at national conferences.
  6. Participating in the production of CROSSROADS magazine and NYAC's Membership Update Newsletter.
  7. Participating in the evaluation and development of NYAC educational materials including information packets, fact sheets, and other deliverables.
  8. Coordinating production and dissemination of regular email news alerts to NYAC's membership.
  9. Supporting youth organizing, networking, community building, and involvement in NYAC.
  10. Contributing actively to NYAC's work and development as a social justice and anti-oppression organization.
B. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Provide monthly activity report to NYAC Bridges Project Director.
  2. Supervise NYAC interns as appropriate.
  3. Occasional travel may be required.
  4. Other responsibilities as may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent communication and research skills for work via phone, e-mail, written communications, web and other communication mechanisms. High level of organization and detail-orientation. Strong time management skills and ability to carry out multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Demonstrated understanding of, and experience in, issues facing LGBT youth and a general awareness of organizations and resources available in the field of LGBT youth services. Strong commitment to multi-issue social justice work. Ability to work with low income, people of color, multiracial, and multicultural communities and organizations, and programs addressing these communities' needs. Strong computer skills required.
