Preparing Educators for the 21st Century
The Illinois State Board of Education will hold two public hearings to solicit comments on reform recommendations outlined in the November 1997 publication, Preparing Educators for the 21st Century. The recommendations, issued by six advisory groups, are in response to the Framework for Restructuring the Recruitment, Preparation, Licensure, and Continuing Professional Development of Teachers as adopted by the State Board of Education in November 1996.
Educators and friends of public education are invited to participate in the hearings by providing testimony on the recommendations. Presentations will be limited to five minutes and should include five copies of the written testimony for the Board. A registration sheet, available at the door, will determine the order of presentations.
Individuals not able to attend a hearing may provide written testimony by submitting five copies of their remarks to the State Board of Education by not later than the close of business on Friday, January 23, 1998. There is no limit on the length of written reports. Comments should be directed to: Illinois Framework Project, Division of Professional Preparation S-306, Illinois State Board of Education, 100 North First Street, Springfield, Illinois 62777-0001.
