SAFE SCHOOLS PROGRAM FOR GAY AND LESBIAN STUDENTS
DIRECTOR
[EDUCATIONAL IMPROVEMENT SERVICE GROUP]
Duties
One full-time 03 consultant professional position working in the Learning
Support Services Cluster to provide leadership, training and technical
assistance to school districts and training consultants on implementation of
the Safe School Program for Gay and Lesbian Students. Activities include:
- Be a liaison between the Safe Schools Program for Gay and Lesbian
Students and other clusters within the Department of Education
- Develop programming to help schools implement the Equal Educational
Opportunity regulations.
- Coordinate Program Development
- Coordinate Materials Development for the Safe Schools Program for
Gay and Lesbian Students
- Coordinate and help plan statewide conferences
- Be a liaison between the Safe Schools Program for Gay and Lesbian
Students and related school initiatives
- Design needs assessments and programming to meet the needs of
specific gay and lesbian students, including bilingual, urban and rural,
youth of color and special needs students
- Coordinate research and evaluation efforts within the Department of
Education
- Be a liaison to schools for Health Protection and Safe and Drug Free
Schools Grants
Implement provisions of the Education Reform Act by:
- Participating in Department-sponsored or other activities in order
monitor implementation of the Education Reform Act of 1993.
- Participating in Education Reform task force or work groups in order
to facilitate the effective implementation of the Act.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Master's Degree in education, human service management or a
related field
- Experience with violence and/or suicide prevention programs
- Experience with programs for gay and lesbian youth
- Experience working in schools
- Familiarity with program evaluation methods and models.
- Experience in program design and development
- Experience working with racially diverse groups of students
- Demonstrate ability to work as part of a team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong skills in program development and coordination
Compensation
Not to exceed $24.40 per hour with no benefits. The consultant is paid
through a personal services contract with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
