Professional Opportunity: E X E C U T I V E D I R E C T O R
DESCRIPTION
SpeakOut is seeking a highly-motivated, dynamic Executive Director with energy and vision to lead the organization to new levels of effectiveness and visibility. The Executive Director, a new position at SpeakOut, will report to a volunteer Board of Directors.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directs and manages the SpeakOut office, including supervision and evaluation of staff, interns, and volunteers.
- Administers ongoing programs in support of the organization's mission, including outreach and scheduling of speaking engagements, the Fall Forum speaker training, and the Governor's Commission Youth SpeakOut Project.
- Works closely with the Board of Directors and Treasurer to develop and manage the approximately $100,000 annual budget.
- Monitors and manages the organization's fiscal affairs, including cash flow, bookkeeping, payroll, and all local, state and federal tax regulations and other financial obligations.
- Devises organizational development strategy, including grant writing, corporate sponsorship, and fund-raising campaigns and events.
- Designs and implements an external relations strategy to strengthen SpeakOut's identity and visibility in the media and community at large.
- Develops efforts to engage and support volunteer members through member activities, newsletters, and opportunities for continuing education.
- Supports the organization in conducting a Diversity Initiative to foster a more welcoming, inclusive environment for all members and audiences.
- Coordinates Board operations, including scheduling, communications, and record-keeping for monthly meetings.
- Performs other duties as required by the Board of Directors.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience;
- Minimum of three (3) years of paid administrative experience in a community, non-profit or GLBT organization;
- Longstanding affiliation with GLBT communities or organizations;
- Experience in fiscal management;
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
- Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with word processing, desktop publishing, database management, and accounting software;
- Proven ability to work independently, exercise judgement, and manage multiple tasks and priorities.
Preferred:
- Public relations, marketing, and/or customer service experience;
- Grant writing, fund-raising, and/or development experience.
TERMS AND COMPENSATION
35-40 hours/week
$30,000-$35,000 annually, plus benefits and development/fund-raising incentives
