Making High Schools Safe for GLBT Kids

As part of the growing effort to make schools safe and welcoming for all students, UMass Educational Television (UMET) is developing a video teaching tool to help high school teachers and administrators foster GLBT-supportive school environments. UMET, a project of the University of Massachusetts School of Education, is working with people from various schools and communities around the country to create a practical guide that will provide teachers with the tools they need to address GLBT issues and make schools safe and welcoming for all students.

With that goal in mind, we are currently seeking input from people who have had experiences dealing with homophobia and GLBT issues in high schools. In particular, we are hoping to talk to:

• Teachers
  
• Coaches
  
• Support staff (secretaries, janitors, bus-drivers, cafeteria workers, etc.)
  
• School administrators
  
• Current and recently-graduated high school students
  
• Students who left high school
  
• Parents
  
• Scholars and Activists
